Bus service cleared in Stoughton, MA – NBC Boston

Bus service cleared in Stoughton, MA – NBC Boston

All students who have requested bus transportation in Stoughton, Massachusetts will officially receive a ride to school.

Further details will be announced at a Stoughton School Committee meeting on Tuesday evening.

According to school officials, an additional bus has been brought in. It will have to make two trips each in the morning and afternoon, but all 150 middle school students who initially did not have a seat on the bus now have one.

Last week, the district’s superintendent of schools said the public school system had seen a significant increase in bus enrollment, but the system was limited by budget constraints.

The district received 1,529 applications for bus transportation this year, 162 more than last year.

Places were allocated on a first come, first served basis, with priority given to applicants who registered first.

All 771 elementary school students who applied were able to be accommodated, but only 84% of middle and high school applicants were given a place.

There is no district requirement to provide transportation for students in grades 7 through 12, and there will be no busing costs for the 2024-2025 school year.

The school committee meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
