A Marshall County police dog detects drugs in a vehicle and arrests a 27-year-old South Bend woman.
A Marshall County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle on US 31 at 11th Road around 9:30 p.m. Sunday night for false and fictitious driver’s license registration. During the interview with the driver, Mackenzie Craig, it was determined that she had never possessed a valid driver’s license.
The Marshall County sniffer dog indicated the presence of narcotics in the vehicle and after a search, officers found a small amount of methamphetamine and paraphernalia.
Mackenzie Craig was taken to the Marshall County Jail and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. She was held on $1,500 bail.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only a reasonable suspicion to believe that a crime has been committed. Defendants are presumed innocent throughout the trial and are entitled to legal representation and to a jury trial, where the State is required to present evidence beyond a reasonable doubt before a verdict of guilt can be entered.
