Many farm stands offer corn to take home and cook, but roasted corn – often sweet roasted corn – is a popular dish for visitors along Sound Avenue and Main Road. And although sweet corn makes up only 1% of the corn grown in the United States, most North Fork corn farmers offer it for snacking.

If you’re craving a roasted, buttery cob (or two) to take home, these farm stands are worth a stop on your trip through the North Fork.

Bayview Market & Farms; Soundshore Market & Farms
891 Main Street, Riverhead

Bayview Market & Farms has been operated by Bradford and Lorraine Reeve since 2000 (the Sound Avenue location at 5629 Sound Ave., Riverhead was added in 2014), but farming on the property dates back six generations and 200 years. In fact, the first stall was named “Little Chief,” after the variety of sweet corn.

While you enjoy your corn, you can admire the many varieties of flowers on this farm. If you want to impress your judgemental family during the holidays, purchase one of Gabrielsen’s beautiful centerpieces or wreaths and become a favorite once (or again).

In addition to roasted sweet corn, Harbes also offers corn ice cream until the end of the season in October. And you don’t have to buy a ticket to Harbes’ Barnyard Adventure to enjoy the corn – it’s available right at the farm stand.

Lewin Farms
812 Sound Ave., Calverton, 631-929-4327

Lewin Farms has partnered with North Fork Brewing Co. to create the Lewin Farms Series Golden Ale, brewed with produce from Lewin’s fields. Corn and a beer? Sounds like a nice afternoon to us.

Schmitt’s Farm Stand on Sound
3355 Sound Ave., Riverhead

We would be doing our readers a disservice if we sent them to Schmitt’s Farm Stand and didn’t mention what the farm is famous for – the local horseradish! Holy Schmitt’s homemade horseradish comes in a variety of flavors, from beetroot to mustard to BBQ to cranberry. Buy a jar, you won’t be disappointed. Maybe even try it on that corn on the cob…
