Thanks to a new Google Meet update, losing track of your video calls while switching between browser tabs could soon be a thing of the past.
The video conferencing service has introduced a new tweak that ensures users can always keep an eye on their meeting or call. Navigating to another tab will automatically open a picture-in-picture feed.
The feature should be incredibly useful for those who may need to look for relevant information or data in another tab, especially for users who juggle multiple tabs and windows at once.
Google Meet Picture-in-Picture
In a Google Workspace update blog post announcing the “simple but powerful update,” the company noted that the feature was already present in Meet, but is now easier to use and much more responsive.
Previously, users had to manually enable the feature during a meeting, but Picture-in-Picture now launches automatically when the user switches tabs. The feature can be disabled if needed via Google Chrome settings, where it will be found next to the triggers for turning off camera and microphone feeds.
There are some limitations – of course, you have to use Google Chrome as your browser and the feature only works on desktop and laptop devices for now.
The feature is rolling out now and is available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace individual subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts.
This news is the latest upgrade to Google Meet in recent weeks, following the previous announcement that the company’s Gemini AI platform now automatically takes notes during a meeting, allowing users to “put down the pen” and focus more on the meeting, rather than having to split their attention between listening and taking notes during video meetings.
