Community calls on forces represented in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to end discrimination against Azerbaijan

The West Azerbaijan Community called on the forces representing Azerbaijan in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to end discrimination against Azerbaijan, Azernews reports, citing a statement from the community.

It is noted that certain groups, on orders, launched a large-scale campaign against Azerbaijan in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, based solely on racial discrimination, which prompted the Azerbaijani delegation to suspend its activities in the Assembly.

“The anti-Azerbaijani resolution adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) on January 24, 2024 is the culmination of this notorious campaign. The resolution, adopted by a handful of elements dressed in various political garb but essentially extreme nationalists, clearly reveals the true motive of this campaign – the Azerbaijanophobes cannot digest the restoration of the territorial integrity of our country. The Azerbaijani side, based on its national interests, has declared certain PACE members who oppose the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan and violate the European Convention on Human Rights through racial discrimination as persons undesirable. This decision, exposing racism, is Azerbaijan’s sovereign right and serves to promote human rights.”

It was noted that the reactions of PACE President Theodoros Rousopoulos, a member of the Greek Parliament, and PACE member Frank Schwabe from Germany, a notorious anti-Azerbaijani, to Azerbaijan’s decision were unacceptable.

“Over the past 30 years, the ‘human rights enthusiasts’ who have not called for an end to the occupation of Azerbaijani territories, who have not condemned the mass rallies in the capital of a country with the slogan ‘Turkless Armenia’ in the 21st century, who have advocated exclusively the right of return of Armenians and demanded the return of West Azerbaijanis to their ancestral lands, have had no value for the Azerbaijani people,” the statement continued.
