What you should know about Labor Day and its history
There’s more to Labor Day than just barbecues, special deals, and a long weekend. Here’s everything you need to know about the national holiday.
In less than a week it will be Labor Day, a federal holiday that will bring closures of some services, including post offices and banks.
Although many places will be closed, there are things to do throughout the city to pass the time and enjoy the day – concerts, festivals and other activities are planned in Louisville.

According to the U.S. Office of Personnel, federal agencies will be closed on Labor Day.
Monday is also a state holiday, meaning government employees have the day off. Offices in Jefferson County are also closed because their employees have the day off.
Labor Day is also a federal holiday for employees, according to the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office website, and offices remain closed.

Is FedEX open on Labor Day 2024?
Almost all FedEX services will be closed on Labor Day, including FedEx Express, FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery. FedEx Custom Critical will be operational, according to the company’s website.
Is UPS open on Labor Day 2024?
According to the UPS holiday calendar, UPS Domestic Ground, Air and International and UPS Forwarding (Air and Ocean) are closed on Monday.
Some UPS stores will be open, but please check with local stores for hours. UPS Express Critical will be available.

The Louisville Zoo will be open Labor Day weekend, including Monday, confirmed Kyle Shepherd, a zoo spokesman.
People can enter the zoo between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. and “have fun until 6 p.m.,” Shepherd told the Courier Journal via email.
Louisville pools closed on Aug. 3, said Katey Cook, a spokeswoman for Louisville Parks and Recreation. Although the Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center is an indoor pool, it is currently closed for renovations and routine cleaning and will reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
