After the film’s record-breaking opening at the US box office, screenwriter and director Osgood Perkins turned to one of the biggest questions: Why is the serial killer called Longlegs?

“We writers just like words. We like the way certain words sound, look, shape and feel,” he explained.

“It’s got something daddy-man-like and something spooky about it, but it also feels very ’70s to me – almost like a Led Zeppelin song or something groovy on the side of his van.

“It feels like an old-fashioned word that people wouldn’t throw around so much today. It places the film in a weird place. You don’t fully understand it. It doesn’t quite fit, which to me is more compelling and creates a curiosity that I think is important.”

Long-legged is available to buy or rent in the UK from Prime Video, iTunes, the Microsoft Store and elsewhere.
