Reports: LT Trent Williams won’t report to 49ers without contract concessions | National

According to multiple reports, there are no plans for left tackle Trent Williams to play for the 49ers for the first time since the Super Bowl unless they agree to a contract adjustment. Williams remains an outside hitch 14 days before San Francisco’s scheduled game against the New York Jets on “Monday Night Football” to conclude the first week of the regular season. The problem is, Williams’ contract is no longer guaranteed. He was placed on the “Did Not Report” list by the 49ers on July 25, but the team must make a roster decision before 4 p.m. ET Tuesday, when all 32 NFL teams must trim their 90-man rosters to 53 for training camp. Williams, an 11-time Pro Bowl nominee, is eligible to receive $74.76 million over the next three seasons. None of that is guaranteed. Williams has reached the halfway point of his six-year, $138.06 million contract and is entering the fourth year of the agreement. “I knew it could be possible, and I hoped he would be here,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said of Williams last month. “But I knew it could be possible, and I’m pretty confident that it’s going to work out in the long run and he’s going to be here and we’ll be on the same page on everything. It’s just one day of practice, and I think Trent will be OK with missing a couple of practices.” Shanahan said last week he hoped a deal with Williams was getting closer. Williams has been a first-team All-Pro in each of the past three seasons. The 36-year-old is entering his fifth season with San Francisco, which gave up third- and fifth-round picks to acquire him from Washington. Williams, who was selected to the Pro Bowl seven times in nine seasons with Washington, sat out the entire 2019 season amid a dispute with Washington over how to handle his health and injury issues, including a rare form of cancer, and his contract. Williams has a salary cap hit of $31.6 million for 2024. He is scheduled to make $20.05 million this season plus $750,000 in game-day bonuses. Under the terms of his existing contract, he is due $22.5 million next season and $32.21 million in 2026. – Field Level Media
