SEPTEMBER 7: Video game music concert “Level Up!”

On Saturday, September 7th, Fiesta Hall will host “Level Up!” featuring an exciting mix of live video game music from Helix Collective. The event promises a unique experience for both gamers and music lovers, with a mix of epic soundtracks and visuals from some of the most iconic and indie video games.

The day begins at 2 p.m. with a “Start Screen” panel discussion about video game music moderated by Jennifer Miller Hammel of Classical California KUSC. The main concert begins at 3 p.m. with a 10-piece ensemble from Helix Collective. Tickets are $15, with donations accepted for West Hollywood residents.

The concert includes music from popular titles such as Assassin’s Creed Liberation And Lunar Festival by Riot Games alongside compositions from indie games like Blade Rage And Stardander School for WitchesEach piece highlights the work of BIPOC and female composers and puts the spotlight on some of the leading talent in the video game music industry.

Helix Collective is a Los Angeles-based ensemble known for pushing the boundaries of classical music by combining it with contemporary styles and media. The group’s eclectic performances range from film scores to dance music, and are often praised for their “extraordinary programming” and ability to bring classical chamber music to life in unexpected ways.

The program includes compositions by Winifred Phillips, George Shaw, Edwin Wendler and others. Visitors will be immersed in the sound worlds of these games, while Helix Collective will perform alongside gameplay and game art visuals.

Jennifer Miller Hammel, known for her work as a singer and host at KUSC, will lead the pre-concert discussion. Hammel has extensive experience in the game music industry, having lent her voice to soundtracks for games such as League of Legends And Rift: Plains of Telara.

The event is made possible through the support of sponsors including BMI, Spectra Creative Agency and Classical California KUSC, with additional funding from an arts grant from the City of West Hollywood.
