New York’s vast network of Traffic cameras always watch. The big brother has the thumb about your entire existence. Why not do something fun (and a bit of punk rock) from the experience by converting these cameras into a street camera Photo booth? Exactly that BrooklynMorry Kolman did it when they started their project, Traffic camera photo boothlast week. Use of existing DOT live streamspeople can get unique pictures of themselves directly from the government.

Users of the website can access a map showing the city’s network of over 900 cameras, select the nearest camera, pose for the picture and capture a memory. A small button on the app takes the snap for you and you can save it to your phone like a photo booth strip or as a Polaroid-style photo.

“What I particularly like about this project is that people love to get something, especially something about themselves,” Kolman told The New York Post.

“I think giving people the opportunity to take selfies of themselves through these traffic cameras is a really interesting and fun way to raise awareness about the large surveillance apparatus in New York City, and to do it in a way that’s fun and lighthearted. People want to engage with it because they get something out of it.”

Do you know how many cameras are installed in your city to track your movements? Did you know that anyone can access these cameras at virtually any time and without any credentials? If you are being followed in public, there is at least a chance that you will notice, but someone could be tracking your every move from the comfort of your home without you noticing.

The future is less about flying cars and jetpacks than I was led to believe as a child. Instead, there seem to be hundreds of different technological methods to track you and serve you ads.
