Pokemon fan creates impressive crochet version of Charizard

Key findings

  • A fan-crocheted Charizard creation is impressing fans online with its detailed design and pose that resembles the official trading card art.
  • Charizard made his debut in Pokémon Red and Blue and became a popular creature in games, anime, and trading cards.
  • Although no pattern was provided, fans can still admire andre4k’s talented crochet work.

A talented Pokemon Fan let his creativity run wild with a true-to-life crochet replica of the iconic Charizard and impressed other fans online with his detailed handiwork. The fan creation closely resembles Charizard as he appears in the Pokemon video games, while his pose refers to the official artwork of the trading card game that belongs to the series.

Charizard is one of the most iconic Pokémon of all time and debuted in the original Pokemon Red and Blue on the Game Boy, where he appeared as the final form of Charmander, one of the creatures that the player can acquire at the beginning of the game. The fire and flight dragon also played an important role in the anime of the series, appearing on the face of one of the most valuable Pokemon Trading cards of all time.

Reddit user andre4k shared some pictures of his crocheted version of Charizard with the official Pokemon Subreddit, which shows him standing with his neck stretched out and his mouth wide open. The fan’s crochet version of Charizard seems to be directly based on the pose he strikes on the trading card, as can be seen by the fact that their own card is presented in front of it to show the similarities between them.

Freehand crocheted Charizard by a Pokemon fan

Fans in the comments were clearly impressed with their work, with some praising the creator’s talent, complimenting his choice of poses and asking how he managed to do it. According to the user, they made the crocheted Charizard without any instructions, similar to the Magikarp hat that another fan seemingly made by hand.

Unfortunately for Charizard fans, the user didn’t create a pattern for their crochet creation, so anyone wanting to make something similar will have to resort to other references and do it freehand. Of course, there are a variety of mediums to create custom and unique Pokemon fan art, such as one fan who used stained glass to make a Lapras decoration.

Charizard is already a frequent subject for fan art due to his numerous appearances throughout the series and even received two separate Mega Evolution forms in Pokemon X and Y. Therefore, it should come as no surprise to the wider community that Pokémon is so popular among artists, as the fire-breathing dragon continues to be one of the most iconic creatures in the entire franchise.
