Six NHL teams without captains enter the 2024–25 season

The Utah hockey club is searching for a new identity after moving from Arizona and is looking for the first captain in franchise history, a player who can represent the new franchise and lead by example. There are many good options from last season’s roster and one who could help the franchise quickly get on the map.

Clayton Keller

Clayton Keller is one of the best players to keep quiet about. Since he first stepped on the NHL ice, he has been consistently good on offense. Every season, Keller delivers and we know what to expect from him. Although the team has had ups and downs in recent seasons, Keller continues to shine on the ice and in goal scoring. He would be a good representative of the newest NHL franchise.

Lawson Crouse

Lawson Crouse is a player who does the dirty work but is consistent in scoring points. He would be a great choice for captain. While Keller is the offensive star, Crouse wins one-on-ones in the dirty zones and can occasionally fight. Crouse does everything well and continues to be a dominant big man on the ice. Taking Crouse as captain wouldn’t be a bad choice as the team’s first captain.

Mikhail Sergachev

Newly signed defenseman Mikhail Sergachev is determined to prove himself in a new market after spending the last seven seasons in Tampa Bay, winning two Stanley Cups along the way. He is a player who plays physical, always sticks up for his teammates, but is still solid in his zone. As a player with experience in both the regular season and playoffs, he could be a voice in the locker room providing leadership and a player that younger players look up to. An outside candidate, but one who would represent the team well.
