Telos announces release of Zephyr Connect

It is a software-based multi-codec gateway

On Monday, Telos Alliance announced the release of Zephyr Connect, a software-based multi-codec gateway for transporting multiple channels of stereo, mono and dual-mono audio over IP networks.

According to a company press release, Zephyr Connect is “based on the heritage of the Telos iPort series of hardware products” and is delivered as a software container that can be deployed on-premises via a COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) or cloud-hosted server.

Robbie Green, product manager at Telos, said the launch of Zephyr Connect underscores Telos’ commitment to virtualization while complementing its traditional hardware products.

“Zephyr Connect offers the same functionality and features as our Telos iPort high density hardware platform, but with more flexibility and scalability; each instance has two bidirectional codec channels, but customers can expand this in one-channel increments to a total of sixty-four channels, allowing it to easily grow as their needs change,” Green said in the press release.

Telos said Zephyr Connect is ideal for delivering multiple linear or MPEG channels over VPNs, satellite links, Ethernet radios, and services provided by telecom and ISP providers such as SD-WAN, MPLS, or traditional data links.

“It can also be used as a network distribution system, as a multi-channel connection to remote studios, or as a connection from the studio to the transmitter,” Telos wrote.

Zephyr Connect can now be ordered through Telos’ dealer network. Delivery is scheduled for September.
