WyoPreps Preseason Football Tour 2024: Cody Broncs (VIDEO)

The Cody Broncs have been a contender every year for the past decade and will be one of the top teams in Class 3A again in 2024. Cody finished second the past two seasons and they would like to get back to the top. It starts with fighting through a tough 3A West Conference and leaning on some returning top talent.

Cody was 10-2 last year and 4-1 in league play. Their only losses came against state champion and rival Star Valley. Cody had the best running attack last year with 243 yards per game, or 6.6 yards per attempt. They also ranked No. 1 in total offense with 425 yards and averaged 41.3 points per game, the best in 3A. The Broncs were also top-notch defensively, giving up just 276 yards and 14.3 points per game. Cody also managed to gain possession. They finished the season with a turnover differential of over 20.

The Broncs return six all-state players: QB Maddax Ball, WR-DB Chase Hatch, RB-LB Grady McCarten, WR-DB Trey Smith and two linemen Wyatt Barton and Warren Sorenson. Hatch was the 3A West Defensive Player of the Year and McCarten was the 3A West Offensive Player of the Year. Hatch made 110 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss last year. He had one fumble recovery, three interceptions, eight pass breakups and one forced fumble. McCarten ran for nearly 100 yards per game and scored 16 TDs. Ball was the No. 4 QB in 3A. He threw for 2,130 yards with 27 TDs and 13 interceptions. Ball completed 67.5 percent of his passes.

Ball, McCarten and head coach Matt McFadden spoke with WyoPreps about the Broncs in 2024 as part of our preseason football tour.
