Apple event announced for September 9: What you should know

Apple has announced that its next special event will take place on Monday, September 9th, starting at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, meaning the iPhone 16 series and other new products are expected to be unveiled in just a few weeks.

it's a Glowtime event on YouTube
Below we have summarized everything you need to know about Apple’s upcoming event.

How to watch

As usual, Apple will stream its latest event on the Apple Events website, YouTube, and the Apple TV app, so it can be watched on a Mac, iPad, iPhone, Apple TV, and a variety of other devices.

A placeholder for this Apple event is already available on YouTube, and you can click or tap the Notify Me button to get a notification before the stream begins.

Apple has invited select media and content creators to the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park in California to watch the event, but announcements are expected to be delivered via a recorded video rather than a live presentation. Afterward, attendees will be able to try out the iPhone 16 and other new products.

What to expect

Rumor has it that the following products will be announced at Appleā€™s event:

  • iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max: Key new features rumored to be coming to these devices include larger 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays with even thinner bezels, an A18 Pro chip optimized for Apple Intelligence, a brand new “Capture” button for photo and video recording, an improved 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, Wi-Fi 7 support, and more.
  • iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus: Key new features rumored to be coming to the two standard iPhone 16 models include the Action button introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro models, the Record button, a variant of the A18 chip, vertically aligned camera lenses on the rear that can record spatial video for playback on the Vision Pro, and more.
  • Apple Watch Series 10: Rumor has it that the Apple Watch Series 10 models will have larger displays and a thinner design.
  • Apple Watch SE3: The case of the next Apple Watch SE could be made of colorful plastic instead of aluminum, like the iPhone 5c.
  • Apple Watch Series 3: No design changes are expected for the next Apple Watch Ultra, but it could be available in a darker finish.
  • AirPods 4: Two new fourth-generation AirPods models are expected. Both models are rumored to feature a streamlined design with a better fit, improved sound quality, and an updated charging case with a USB-C port. The higher-end AirPods 4 are also rumored to feature active noise cancellation and a speaker in the charging case that can play a Find My location tracking sound.

AirPods Max with a USB-C charging port instead of Lightning will be released in late 2024, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, but it’s unclear if they’ll be announced at Apple’s event next month. Gurman said the new AirPods Max wouldn’t be considered the second-generation AirPods Max, and he said there won’t be any other changes aside from the possibility of new color options. If that were the case, the AirPods Max would lack the Adaptive Audio features enabled by the H2 chip that debuted in the AirPods Pro 2 a few years ago.
