When a Boston police officer is shot with a water pistol during a stop, a loaded, unlicensed handgun is discovered

A Boston man who authorities say fired a water pistol at police officers during a traffic stop was arrested over the weekend. During the arrest, officers found a real gun in his waistband, according to Boston police.

Police said the incident began around 7:15 p.m. Saturday after officers stopped a car on Warren Street in Roxbury. An officer was hit in his patrol car by a liquid from a passing car.

Officers left the traffic stop, stopped the passing car and told the occupants they had interfered with the stop, police said. A male passenger told police “he was trying to scare them,” officers reported.

The man refused to comply with officers’ requests to exit the car. Police said they noticed the man was “bent over.”

After officers dragged the man out of the vehicle, they said they found a loaded pistol in his waistband and a water pistol inside the car.

The man was identified as Danyael Torres, 23, of Dorchester. While the other occupants of the car were released, Torres was arrested on charges of assault on a police officer, unlawful possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

He is scheduled to appear in Roxbury District Court on Monday.
