Former NFL player and podcaster Cam Newton said he wants more children but is afraid of marriage and divorce. Newton, 34, who has eight children with three different women, shared those thoughts with Dr. Cheyenne Bryant on his podcast “Funky Friday.”

When Bryant asked if the former NFL player wanted to have more children with more women, he replied, “I just want God to give them to me. What I’m saying is, my desire to get married is less than my fear of divorce.”

He added, “As you would say – you said it, not me, I agree – I’m just taking my time,” referring to Bryant’s earlier statements during their conversation.

The psychology expert and life coach challenged Newton’s idea that it was okay to continue having children with multiple women, telling him that doing so would create broken families.

“You’re proactive about where you’re going to be active and what you’re going to take your time with,” she began. “You’re going to take your time out of fear of finding a woman, but you’re going to – and I say this with all respect and love – selfishly create broken families. Even if you’re in their lives and you’re a proactive father – and I think you’re a great father – those families are still broken. Not every child can have daddy in the house. So some children, if not all, are going to end up with a deficit if daddy’s not there.”

Dr. Bryant continued, “Well, you chose to do this – I’m not saying you woke up one morning and said, ‘Today I want to be selfish, so I’m going to make a baby.’ But these are selfish acts at the expense of your fear.”

Newton listened and nodded as the psychologist explained why it was not healthy to have multiple children in different families.

“Yes, that is a behavior that doesn’t work: saying I’m going to build these houses and put these beautiful children and beautiful women in them, but I’m not going to create a home and then I’m going to wait until my fear goes away to find a woman – who I’ll still be afraid of because there’s no such thing as courage or feeling in marrying someone to spend your life with – and then build a home with her while all these other beautiful babies have homes. That’s totally unfair and selfish,” she concluded.

Newton recently welcomed his eighth child with current girlfriend and comedian Jasmin Brown. The two were first linked in 2021 and their daughter was born in March 2024. The comedian received criticism for giving birth to the NFL player’s child out of wedlock, as he already had several children with multiple women. She was also accused of being a hypocrite, as she has often criticized “baby mama culture” in the past.

Before dating Brown, Newton dated Kia Proctor between 2013 and 2020. They had three children together, and he refers to her eldest daughter as his own. The podcaster also has one child, his youngest, with Instagram model LaReina Shaw, and refers to her eldest son from a previous relationship as his.
