Ride the wave of success with the best Genshin Impact Mualani build and ride to victory. This 5-star Hydro figure wields a catalyst as her primary weapon and is a well-known leader in Natlan.

Mualani’s elemental ability, Surfshark Wavebreaker, allows her to jump onto a shark-like surfboard and glide over water and ground alike – this is a powerful exploration ability that allows you to quickly traverse difficult terrain. By using Surfshark Wavebreaker, Mualani can enter the Night Soul Blessing state and gain 60 Night Soul points. While Mualani is in this state, Night Soul points are constantly consumed – when they are depleted, Surfshark Wavebreaker ends.

In combat, Surfshark Wavebreaker transforms her normal attack into Sharky’s Bites, which deal Hydro damage based on Mualani’s maximum HP. When Mualani rams enemies in this state, she applies the Marked as Prey effect to them and gains a stack of Wave Pulse (she can have up to three of these). Wave Pulse increases the damage of Sharky’s Bites, and three stacks of the effect transform the attack into Sharky’s Surging Bite. Hitting enemies marked as prey removes the mark, but allows Mualani to fire Hair Missiles at up to five nearby targets that are still marked as prey. Sharky’s Bite and Hair Missile deal less damage when three or more enemies are marked as prey at once, so it’s best to focus on just a few targets.

Mualani’s Elemental Burst, Boomsharka-laka, fires a super shark missile that tracks enemies and deals Hydro damage based on their maximum HP in the area of effect. Boomsharka-laka’s damage is increased after nearby party members use a Nightsoul Burst.

Her passive talents revolve around generating additional Night Soul Points to keep her in the Night Soul Blessed state for longer, as well as gaining Phlogiston while exploring—all in all, Mualani is Natlan’s first 5-star character for a reason: she’s a great asset for traversing the land.

Mualani is an offensive-minded character in battle. Maximum HP will be her deciding stat, as the amount of damage she can deal is heavily dependent on this attribute. Surf’s Up, Mualani’s signature catalyst, naturally gives its wielder a decent chunk of HP in addition to critical hit damage. Additionally, Surf’s Up generates four stacks of Scorching Summer after the wielder uses an elemental skill, increasing normal attack damage (e.g. Sharky’s Bite’s damage for Mualani). One stack is consumed for each hit against an enemy, but more can be generated by triggering the Vaporization Reaction – so you should try to have some Pyro characters on the team.

You may want to go for the traditional Hydro DPS set, Heart of the Depthsafter you have added Mualani to your team. However, once you have explored Natlan a bit further, be sure to farm the brand new artifact set Obsidian Codex for them. Two pieces of it deal bonus damage while the wearer is in the Blessing of the Night Soul state, while four pieces massively increase critical hit rate after a Night Soul point is spent – and Mualani does this continuously.

You should get the following stat distribution for Mualani’s Artifact Set:

Mualani thrives on reaction-oriented teams and wants to be a team’s damage dealer on the field – she has no skills to offer off the field.

Since Natlan has no Pyro characters, Mualani gets fiery support from one of the most iconic character duos in Genshin Impact history: Xiangling and Bennett. Together, they provide tremendous off-field Pyro applications, damage buffs, and healing. Kazuha or a similar Anemo character comes in for damage buffs and crowd control.

Alternatively, you can put Mualani in the main DPS role of a Fontaine-style Hydro team. Since Hydro Resonance increases everyone’s max HP in this setup, Mualani and Furina benefit in terms of damage and Si gain in terms of additional healing.

You’ll want to level up Mualani quickly when you finally pull her, which means you’ll need to farm her ascension materials. You’ll also need some materials to upgrade her talents.

Here’s what you need to get Mualani to level 90:

Varunada Lazurite can be obtained from any Hydro-related boss on the world map, such as the Hydro Hypostasis beneath Watatsumi Island or Fontaine’s Hydro Tulpa and All-Devouring Narwhal. You’ll need to farm the All-Devouring Narwhal for Lightless Mass anyway, so you should be able to passively generate enough Varunada Lazurite while gathering these rarer materials.

Whistles are obtained by defeating the warriors you encounter in Natlan. Spray Feather Gills can only be found in Natlan, where the Spring People live. The best way to earn more Mora in the game is to farm Golden Ley Line Blossoms.

Here’s what you need to level up all of Mualani’s talents:

The materials mentioned above can be found. You will need to visit the Blazing Ruins Domain on Monday, Thursday, and Sunday to farm Scrolls of Contention. As mentioned, Lightless Mass is a boss drop from the Narwhal in Fontaine.

Crowns of Insight are rare items obtained from limited-time events or regional reward mechanisms, such as the Grand Narukami Shrine in Inazuma, the Tree of Dreams in Sumeru, and the Lucine Fountain in Fontaine.
