Over the past decade, Bucs starting quarterback Jameis Winston has had problems off the field and was eventually classified as a sex offender by the NFL.

The Bucs responded to this shocking day for fans with two sentences from an unnamed team source.

Fast forward to 2022: Bucs star quarterback Tom Brady took a long break from training, while his departure was surrounded by much mystery.

Last August, Tampa Bay’s top quarterback Baker Mayfield filed legal action to recoup his missing eight-figure fortune, which may have been misdirected by a family member. Mayfield was also stuck in a battle for the quarterback spot for the entire 2023 offseason.

Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht prefers a quarterback with a clear mind, he told Tampa Bay Sports Day Podcast recently.

And Licht said he believes he will get one this year in Mayfield.

Interestingly, Licht seemed to be referring to Brady and Winston (or Josh McCown?) when he stated that the stage was set for Mayfield to make his 2023 Pro Bowl season.

“I think it plays a big role when a quarterback’s mind is free of outside things – worries and concerns and all those things,” Licht said. “We saw it here. It makes a big difference. You know, (Mayfield) has had some problems in the past. Right now, I think he’s doing pretty well.”

Joe has every reason to believe that Mayfield will have his best NFL season.

Not only is Mayfield 29 years old, has a new contract, and the full trust of the Bucs organization, but his offensive line should also be improved, because there’s no way the Bucs will finish last in the NFL in rushing for the third consecutive season. Right?
