A UI 6 update for Galaxy Watch 4 enables AOD everywhere

Samsung’s One UI 6 is the company’s latest operating system, based on Wear OS 5 and launched in a beta phase for older generations of watches. The Galaxy Watch 4 is getting an update to the One UI 6 beta, which enables Always-On Display (AOD) to run anywhere on the watch.

The Galaxy Watch 4 is receiving its fourth One UI 6 beta under the firmware version ending with ZXH4. According to reports, this update is apparently only rolling out in South Korea at the moment, but that will likely change soon.

The changelog shows that there are some improvements in the Wear OS 5 beta. These include system and performance optimizations that come standard with almost every update. The update also brings basic network optimizations.

The big feature of the One UI 6 update is called “Global AOD.” Global AOD essentially means that the Always-On Display feature is updated to a version that shows the screen when the watch has gone to sleep. For example, AOD will kick in when you’re working out and stop looking at your watch. The display will still show workout information, but it will dim to save battery.

The new feature is a notable addition. The Galaxy Watch 4 is several generations old, but it was Samsung’s first hybrid watch with Tizen and Wear OS. It’s fantastic to see a device that’s several generations back not only getting software updates, but also beta upgrades.
