Cedar Point’s newest attraction is closed for the remainder of 2024, but is scheduled to reopen next year

SANDUSKY, OH – Thrill seekers will have to wait until next year to experience Cedar Point’s newest attraction, as Top Thrill 2 has been closed for the remainder of 2024. The amusement park announced the closure Friday, more than three months after the attraction was first closed for a “mechanical modification.”

The ride opened on May 4, but just eight days later, Cedar Point informed guests that the roller coaster would have to close.

“Unfortunately, the manufacturer will not be able to complete the necessary modifications in time to reopen the coaster in 2024. We are extremely disappointed that we will not be able to open the coaster this season, but remain committed to providing our guests with a reliable, consistent and unparalleled coaster experience in 2025,” Cedar Point said in a statement. “In the meantime, we sincerely apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience.”

It’s unclear what “modifications” need to be made to make the ride safe, but Cedar Point has repeatedly stated that the ride’s manufacturer, Zamperla, is working to ensure the ride operates smoothly.

Top Thrill 2 is a 420-foot-tall, triple-launch strata roller coaster that replaced an earlier version of the attraction called Top Thrill Dragster. The original version of the attraction closed in 2022, a year after a Michigan woman was injured by falling debris.
