New Quest 3S headset expected to be unveiled at Meta Connect event • iPhone in Canada Blog

In September, Meta is expected to unveil its new mixed reality headset, with the new Quest 3S expected to be on the list of reveals during the Meta Connect keynote.

It is reported that Meta Quest 3S will be a new entry-level mixed reality headset in Meta’s portfolio. According to BloombergAccording to Mark Gurman, the Quest 3S (an internal working title) will likely be available at a lower price. Gurman suggests that Meta is targeting a price of around $300 to $400 (about $405 to $540 CAD). In Canada, the Quest 3 will start at $649.

In order to offer Quest 3S at a lower price, Meta is reportedly considering shipping the headset individually and selling the controllers separately. However, Gurman also notes that some SKUs of the new headset could include the controllers.

Rumors about the Quest 3S first surfaced in May of this year. Meta apparently accidentally leaked the working name on the app store page for Alo Moves XR, a VR yoga app. On top of that, stocks of the Quest 2 have been dwindling since earlier this year. With the company seemingly running out of stock on its entry-level headset, now might be the right time to unveil a new model.

In addition to unveiling the Quest 3S, Meta is also expected to showcase “a prototype” of its new AR smart glasses. The new device, called Orion, is expected to resemble Meta Ray-Ban glasses. Orion could utilize built-in speakers, a camera, and AI capabilities. However, the company could also introduce screen capabilities. Gurman believes this will be used as an “AR-like display.” It is believed that the company will also “showcase new AI-driven software” at Meta Connect.
