Brenden Aaronson: I always try to set up and score goals

With his second goal of the season, Brenden Aaronson scored the first goal for Leeds United in the Yorkshire derby against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday evening.

A goal by Dan James in the second half sealed the victory in front of almost 4,000 travelling fans in Hillsborough.

In an exclusive interview with LUTV after the game, Aaronson shared his thoughts on the game.

“It feels really good,” Brenden began after scoring the three points.

“I’m really happy with the team and our game tonight. Overall it was a great performance.”

“When you come here, it’s going to be tough in the first 15 or 20 minutes. They’re going to put pressure on us, they’re good at putting pressure on us, so they’re going to make it tough for us.

“We knew from the start that we would have to hold out a little for the first 15 or 20 minutes, but then get into a rhythm. If we then score a goal, we can carry on playing from then on.”

Halfway through the first half, the midfielder calmly received the ball in a fluid combination play, sank it with his left foot and helped his team to three important points.

“It’s always great to score a goal,” Aaronson told LUTV.

“Especially in the position I play, I always try to set up and score goals, so that’s really good.

“I think for me, I will always be the guy who works for the team first and foremost.

“Whether it’s in pressing or in working against the ball, I think I also contribute a lot with the ball when I create and score goals.

“That was my biggest goal this year. I want to score goals, provide assists and help the team.”
