Superintendent of Police L. Balaji Saravanan was speaking at a motivational programme at Subbiah Vidyalayam Girls Higher Secondary School in Thoothukudi recently. He focused mainly on the ‘Law of Attraction’ and quoted from ‘The Secret’, a book by Rhonda Byrne: “By maintaining a positive attitude and focusing on what you want rather than what you don’t want, you can attract positive results in your life,” he said.

Club opens

VOC College of Education, Thoothukudi in collaboration with the Department of Children Welfare inaugurated the Child Protection Club on August 9. L. Alex, District Child Protection Officer and Ruban Kishore, Chairman, Child Welfare Committee were the guests of honour. Mr. Alex discussed the problems faced by women and children in the society and the measures taken by the government. Mr. Kishore explained the functions of child protection centres and emphasised the active role of parents and teachers in child protection.

PVM boys take first place

Students of Pushpalata Vidya Mandir, Tirunelveli, bagged the first position in the ‘Organ Donation Day Awareness Quiz’ conducted by the Post Office at the General Post Office, Tirunelveli on August 1. The diligent efforts of S. Soorya Narayanan, M. Vignesh and D. Pranav of Class 12 earned them the title of winners. The students were also given individual plaques.

20 Get a boat license

There are around 6,000 mechanised fishing boats operating along the Tamil Nadu coast, including 1,000 deep-sea fishing vessels. Most of these vessels are operated by fishermen based on their traditional skills and without proper licences. Under these circumstances, Fisheries College and Research Institute, Thoothukudi and Directorate of Incubation and Vocational Training in Fisheries, Ariyaman Beach, Ramanathapuram, both institutes of Fisheries University, Nagapattinam, have jointly trained 500 fishermen to work on mechanised vessels in a week-long training course since 2019. These fishermen are eligible to apply for a boat licence issued by the Fisheries Department. Recently, FCRI organised an event in Thoothukudi where 20 aspiring fishermen were issued licences.

FDP led

SCAD College of Engineering and Technology, Cheranmahadevi organized a Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Big Data Analytics for Smart Grids” from August 5 to 10. It was sponsored by AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy. It was organized by Bastin Solai Nazaran and Ann Rufus from EEE Department. 50 participants from various institutions participated. Experts from NIT-Tiruchi, Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai and other leading institutions provided valuable insights on the latest advancements in the field.

Quiz competition held

St. Mary’s College, Thoothukudi held an inter-school quiz competition on August 7. The competition included a written preliminary test to assess the knowledge of the participating teams. The top five teams advanced to the on-stage quiz competition, which consisted of five rounds. Alagar Public School, Spic Nagar HSS and Sakthi Vinayagar Hindu Vidyalaya HSS came first, second and third respectively.

The college was also adjudged the best participating institution of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan for the year 2023-24 by the regional coordinating institution, Gandhigram Rural Institute, Gandhigram, on August 7.

Honor for the school

The Government of Tamil Nadu honoured Hilton Matric HSS, Old Courtallam on August 4 for its 100% results in this year’s Class 10 and 12 public examinations. Education Minister Anbil Mahesh and Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development Udayanidhi Stalin honoured the school with certificate and recognition. Principal C. Queen Elizabeth received the certificate from Director of Primary Education P. Naresh.

BVM students win prizes

Students of Bharath Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School in Ilanji won the first prize at Techno Talentum on Saturday. The event was organized by St. Joseph’s Group of Institutions in Chennai. The ‘Automatic Bicycle Light Indicator’ was developed by S. Barath Ram, KB Alzal Ahamed and T. Abishek. Their project, which aims to improve the safety of motorcycles through automatic light activation, impressed the judges and earned them the top award along with a cash prize of Rs 7,000.
