Students eat at a stand at Panera

Stamp Restaurant Shuffle
Panera opened to large crowds in the Adele H. Stamp Student Union at the end of the spring semester, so the summer was a good opportunity for staff to turn the operation into a well-oiled machine. Additionally, the back dining room will soon be available for reservations, giving members of the campus community a new place to gather with colleagues and friends.

Other places in Stamp will also look a little different: Subway is moving into the former Saladworks space in the food court this fall, creating additional space in the TerpZone for gaming. Chik-fil-A will take over the former Roy Rogers space across from its current busy location in the spring, doubling its kitchen space.

Both will use the new Grubhub ordering system — familiar to anyone who has used the kiosks at Panera — which shortens lines and speeds up the process for customers, said Bart Hipple, assistant director of marketing and communications. Grubhub ordering is also available at all campus locations that serve Starbucks coffee, as well as North and South Campus markets, and may roll out to additional Stamp food court restaurants as well.

Special offers from the cafeteria – directly on your phone
Want to know when and where to get doughboys for breakfast or birria tacos for lunch? Download the University of Maryland app, where Dining Services announces its specials. Just turn on push notifications and you’ll be the first to know what UMD chefs are serving daily.

Extended market hours
The North and South Campus markets offer pizza, burgers, the ever-popular chicken tenders and more, and are now open until midnight every day. The grill stations were extremely popular last year, fueling the trend toward longer hours.

The return of recipes from home, Purple Zone recognition
After a hiatus in the Recipes from Home program, this year Dining Services will be sending postcards to the homes of resident students, asking their families to send us their favorite recipes to prepare in the dining halls.

“This is such a great feature – we missed it last year,” said Hipple.

Elsewhere in the dining halls, the Purple Zone at 251 North, which offers food free of the nine most common allergens, was named a winner of the 2024 National Allergy Awards by MenuTrinfo. This is a testament to the department’s commitment to meeting student needs, Hipple said, which also includes a Purple Zone in the South Campus Dining Hall, a gluten-free station at Yahentamitsi and clearly labeled ingredients and allergens for all dishes.

New menu at Mulligan’s
Want to grab a crab cake for lunch with your colleagues away from the hustle and bustle of campus—without leaving UMD? Mulligan’s, located in the UMD Golf Course Clubhouse, is offering a new and expanded menu reminiscent of pre-pandemic offerings. The catering section is also back, allowing faculty and staff to order food for meetings and exams.
