Australia, NSW: Light source bpa UK-based solar developer half-owned by bp Plc has received the green light from the New South Wales Government to build a 450 MW solar park with battery storage in the state. The approval was announced on Friday. The project, called Goulburn River Solar Farm, is valued at 800 million Australian dollars (538 million US dollars).
The photovoltaic complex is to be located near Goulburn in the Upper Hunter region of New South Wales and could produce 992,000 MWh of electricity annually, enough to power 191,000 homes. The operation is expected to offset around 733,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, supporting the state’s net-zero emissions target. The solar farm will be coupled with a battery energy storage system (BESS).
The site is located between the Central-West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) and the Hunter-Central Coast REZ and will have direct access to the existing electricity transmission network. Construction is expected to create approximately 350 jobs.
