The final Grand Slam of the year, the US Open, begins today (26 August) and a total of four Indian players will be in action. Nagal will be playing in his fourth Grand Slam event this year and will be the first Indian player to do so in a singles tournament since 2019.

Prajnesh Gunneswaran (2019) and Yuki Bhambri (2018) were the last male Indian tennis players to play four tournaments in a calendar year. Coming back to Nagal, he is currently ranked 73rd in the ATP rankings. He will face Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands, who is ranked 40th. As for his performance in the Grand Slams this year, Sumit Nagal made it to the second round of the Australian Open.

However, he was eliminated in the first round at the French Open and the Wimbledon Championships. Nagal also failed to make it past the first round at the Olympic Games in Paris.
