Ladakh News: Amit Shah says Centre will create five new districts in Ladakh | India News

Indian Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Monday that the Home Ministry plans to create five new districts in the Union Territory of Ladakh. The new districts are Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra and Changthang.

Earlier, Ladakh was divided into two districts – Leh and Kargil. Leh was divided into six sub-districts while Kargil was divided into four.

Both the districts are administered by their respective autonomous district councils. After the creation of the new districts, Ladakh will consist of a total of seven districts.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Shah said the new districts will help ensure that benefits reach people in the Union Territory as well.

In a post, the Home Minister said, “To realise the vision of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji to build a developed and prosperous Ladakh, the Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to create five new districts in the Union Territory. The new districts namely Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra and Changthang will bring the benefits to the people at their doorsteps by strengthening governance in every nook and cranny.”

The Home Minister further said, “The Modi government is committed to providing ample opportunities to the people of Ladakh.”
