Every driver must inform the DVLA of this widespread health problem or face a fine of £1,000

Motorists in the UK have been urged to report a lesser-known condition to the DVLA (motor vehicle authority) or face a hefty fine.

To ensure road safety, all drivers must report certain health conditions to the DVLA. These conditions, such as epilepsy and diabetes, can affect your ability to drive, so it is important to disclose them.

However, there is a less obvious problem that affects many people and that needs to be reported, and leading experts want to remind people about it.

Car specialists at BigWantsYourCar.com warn anyone who frequently feels dizzy, as this can significantly impair their ability to drive and pay attention on the road.

Failure to keep the DVLA up to date could result in a fine of up to £1,000 if your condition causes an accident, according to the Mirror, Devon Live reports.

The experts explained: ‘If you experience sudden, disabling or recurring dizziness or vertigo, it is essential that you inform the DVLA. Failure to do so could result in serious consequences, including a fine of up to £1,000 and, in some cases, prosecution if your condition causes an accident.

“Drivers holding a car or motorcycle licence should complete form DIZ1 and send it to the DVLA. The address for submission is on the form. For holders of a bus, coach or lorry licence, the appropriate form to complete is DIZ1V, which should also be sent to the DVLA address provided.”

This strict rule is designed to ensure that all drivers can drive their vehicles safely. Unexpected dizziness or vertigo can seriously affect your ability to drive and pose a risk not only to you but also to other road users.
