Singer Chappell Roan denounces “predatory” behavior of his fans: “Please stop touching me”

(NEW YORK) — Singer Chappell Roan is denouncing what she describes as “predatory” behavior from her fans and asking them to respect her boundaries in public after delivering a similar message in videos last week.

The “Good Luck, Babe!” singer made the comment in an Instagram post on Friday.

“I have had too many physical and social interactions without consent,” wrote Roan, whose debut album, “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” rose to meteoric popularity this year. “I chose this career path because I love music and art and honor my inner child. I do not accept harassment of any kind because I chose this path, nor do I deserve it.”

Roan also emphasized the difference between the moments when she is in “work mode” and the moments when she is “clocked out.”

“I disagree with the idea that I owe people I don’t know, don’t trust, or creep me out a reciprocal exchange of energy, time, or attention – just because they express admiration,” she wrote. “Women don’t owe you a reason why they don’t want to be touched or spoken to.”

She continued, “I’m specifically talking about predatory behavior (disguised as ‘superfan’ behavior) that has become normalized because of the way high-profile women have been treated in the past.”

She argued that her fame did not mean she had to endure “creepy people, touching and following.”

“I want to love my life, be outside, giggle with my friends, go to the movies, feel safe and do all the things that every single person deserves. Please stop touching me. Please stop being weird to my family and friends,” Roan pleaded with her over 4 million Instagram followers.

“I feel more love than I have ever felt before in my life. I feel more insecure than I have ever felt before in my life,” she wrote.

“There is a part of me that is meant only for me and I don’t want it taken away from me,” she wrote, concluding her message with thanks to everyone who read the note.

Last week, the singer spoke about “weird” interactions she’s had with fans. Roan shared on TikTok that her comments weren’t directed at a specific person or encounter, adding, “That’s just my side of the story and my feelings.”
