Plea for the creation of a unified mechanism in Karimnagar on the model of HYDRAA

Congress MP for Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency Velchala Rajender Rao advocated setting up a unified agency in Karimnagar on the lines of Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) to protect government lands and water bodies in and around Karimnagar city.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, Mr. Rao claimed that there was an upsurge in land grabbing during the previous BRS government with the support of some key persons at the top of the erstwhile BRS government.

Land worth millions in the limits of Karimnagar Municipal Corporation and also the tank schikam He accused the party of illegal encroachment on (catchment) land in the surrounding villages by unscrupulous elements during the party’s ten-year rule, which collided with the tolerance of the BRS leadership.

During the ten years of BRS rule, illegal constructions have come up within the full tank level of the Lower Manair Dam (LMD) reservoir and land grabbers have plundered the poor by taking away their land, he said.

On the orders of the state government, several land grabbers have already been arrested by the police to curb the menace of land grabbing and to ensure justice for the poor who have been harmed. He praised the police for their tough action against land grabbers in Karimnagar.

Mr. Rao said, “Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is determined to stop land grabbing and we will request him to create a robust mechanism on the lines of HYDRAA in Karimnagar.”
