ForbesToday’s NYT Mini Crossword clues and answers for Sunday, August 25

The week has started again, like it always does on every Monday, unless you’re one of those people who thinks Sunday is the start of the week, in which case you’re probably crazy. This Monday I’m off on a little solo trip, but I’ll still be writing up my Wordle and mini crossword guides. Buckle up, here we go!

The NYT Mini is a smaller, faster, more digestible and bite-sized version of the larger and more challenging NYT Crossword, and unlike its bigger brother, it’s free to play, with no New York Times subscription required. You can play it on the web or via the app, although you’ll need the app to edit the archive.

A good tactic for crossword puzzles is to start by solving as many horizontal puzzles as you can. Then you will find that many of the vertical puzzles have already been solved – or vice versa if the horizontal puzzles are more difficult.

While some of today’s words are pretty straightforward, others might stum you. Find the answers below. Of course, spoilers follow. Skip ahead to see the picture of the puzzle solved today.

ABOVE

1 — Protruding muscle of a football player — CALF

5 — Member of an underwater colony — CORAL

6 — Mario’s twin — LUIGI

7 — Excitement — ANGRY

8 — Source of a hum … with or without the last letter — BEER

DOWN

1 — Two-door car — COUPE

2 — Stand up or come up — ARISE

3 — Light variant of the 8 series — LAGER BEER

4 — Move fast like a butterfly — RUNNING

5 — ♣ — CLUB

I was a little confused and nervous on this one, but I think it’s because I’m in a hurry and on the go and it just throws me off a bit. Of all these clues, the buzzing one was the best, because with its last letter a BEER produces a buzzing sound, and without its last letter it’s a buzzing bee. Overall a pretty easy puzzle, but words like COUPE eluded me for a while, and although I was thinking of a coral reef, the idea of using CORAL didn’t immediately occur to me. Silly me. How did you get on? Let me know on ÞjórsárdenInstagram or Facebook.

If you play Wordle, I write guides for that too. You can find those and all my TV guides, reviews and much more here on my blog. Thanks for reading!
