We want you to tell us the worst street in Huddersfield

If you think you’ve found the worst road in Huddersfield, we want to hear from you. Perhaps it’s full of potholes, an accident black spot or somewhere where you get stuck in traffic on your daily commute.

Kirklees Council spent a whopping £1.65 million fixing 33,908 potholes across the borough last financial year. According to research by Bill Plant Driving School, Kirklees was ranked as one of the most potholed places in the UK in 2022.

Recently, the council was criticised by Liberal Democrat councillors from the Almondbury district for backing out of previously approved plans to resurface two roads in a bid to save money, with one of the roads said to resemble a “patchwork”.

However, work is underway to improve the roads and their safety. A surface improvement programme for 32 roads was carried out over the summer and major plans for Bradley Mills Road in Dalton are awaiting council approval. According to a council report, the problematic road is causing “safety issues” for motorists and pedestrians.

Kirklees Council and its partners are also working on a West Yorkshire-wide initiative called Vision Zero, which aims to eliminate all deaths and serious injuries from road crashes by 2040. At a meeting earlier this year, it was announced that Kirklees had made “great progress” in reducing the number of road deaths.
