Deputy Minority Leader in the House of Representatives and Colorado U.S. Representative Joe Neguse (D-Boulder) took the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Thursday.

The theme of the fourth evening of the congress was “For our future”.

Neguse, 40, is a rising star in the Democratic Party. He has risen through the ranks since taking office in 2019 and currently holds the fourth-highest position in the party as vice chairman of the Democratic Party. In his speech Thursday, he talked about how Vice President Kamala Harris understands that “college is a ticket to the middle class” and emphasized how she will expand educational opportunities as president.

The Democratic National Committee convention is taking place in Chicago until Thursday. Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to officially accept the party’s nomination for the 2024 presidential election on November 5 on Thursday.

What you should know about Representative Joe Neguse

  • Who is he? Congressman Neguse represents Colorado’s 2nd District in the U.S. House of Representatives and was elected to his first term in November 2018, making him the first black member of Congress in Colorado history.

  • What role he plays: Neguse has a history of championing Black history and the rights of Black Americans and immigrants. Neguse rose to prominence during former President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial in 2021 after being chosen by his House colleagues to become the youngest House impeachment manager in U.S. history. He has also proven himself to be a loyal member of the party, voting with President Joe Biden’s stated position on every vote of the 117th Congress, according to a FiveThirtyEight analysis.

When and where will the DNC take place?

The Democratic National Convention will take place from August 19 to 22 in Chicago, Illinois.

The United Center, home of the Chicago Bulls and Blackhawks, will be the main venue for the DNC.

Chicago has hosted the Democratic National Convention eleven times, most recently in 1996, when President Bill Clinton was nominated for a second term at the United Center.

How to watch and stream the DNC 2024

For the rest of the week, the convention will be broadcast live on the broadcaster’s website from the United Center in Chicago between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Eastern Time (6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Central Time).

The DNC announced the evening’s themes for the convention. The title of the convention is “For the People, For Our Future.”
