The teenager was taken to the hospital and “an investigation into the incident is ongoing,” a park representative told EW.

A 17-year-old girl was injured and taken to hospital after falling from a chain cart at Canada’s Wonderland theme park owned by Six Flags north of Toronto, Ontario, a park official confirmed to Weekly entertainment.

“On Thursday, July 11, at approximately 2:35 p.m., operators of the Swing of the Century attraction reported a guest injury. Park medical staff and emergency services responded and the guest was transported to the hospital,” Grace Peacock, the park’s communications director, tells EW in an email. “An investigation into the incident is ongoing and the Technical Standards and Safety Authority has approved the reopening of the attraction. The safety of our guests and employees is our top priority.”

Peacock adds that the ride at the park has been “open” since Friday.

When asked, Constable James Dickson of the York Regional Police further told EW that local officers responded to calls for assistance at around 2:42 p.m., but “this incident was not related to any crime.”

Officials remained on scene to assist paramedics. A representative from York Region Emergency Services told EW they received a call for action at 2:39 p.m. local time and paramedics transported the injured person to a trauma center shortly after arriving.

EW has asked representatives of the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) for a statement.

The Swing of the Century ride first opened at Canada’s Wonderland – Canada’s largest amusement park, previously owned by Paramount and featuring rides with themes such as Grave robbers, Super shooterAnd The Italian job — in 1981. It is a standard model of the Wave Swinger from the German company Zierer. This chain and swing attraction is used in numerous parks around the world, including many in the USA.

According to Zierer’s website, there are two different models of the attraction: a 40-seat version and a 56-seat version. Both spin riders – who hang from seats attached to chains – in a circular motion, reaching heights of nearly 42 feet. It’s unclear how far the teenager fell from the attraction in Canada’s Wonderland.

The incident is the latest in a series of theme park incidents in recent months, including an incident in June on a log flume ride at Six Flags Over Texas where visitors jumped into the water after several boats became stuck. In June, a man died when he was struck by a moving roller coaster train at Kings Island in Ohio after entering a restricted area.

Although Canada’s Wonderland, Kings Island and Six Flags Over Texas were previously operated by different companies, they are now all owned by Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, which was formed earlier this month after Six Flags merged with Cedar Fair to form a supergroup of properties spanning Mexico, the United States and Canada.
