Organization withdraws from plan to build golf courses in Jonathon Dickinson State Park

Plans to build golf courses in Jonathon Dickinson State Park have suffered a major setback.

The Tuskegee Dunes Foundation, the organization that wanted to build a par 5 golf course in Jonathon Dickinson State Park, has withdrawn its participation.

CBS12 News has contacted the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to confirm whether the Tuskegee Dunes Foundation has withdrawn its golf course project for the state park.

The FDEP spokesperson told CBS12 News, “We applaud their decision to pursue projects outside of the park and will continue to support the foundation’s mission. This project will be removed from agency review.”

Congressman Brian Mast reposted a post by Daniel Bongino saying the organization had canceled its project.

“We value this park and will fight tooth and nail to protect it,” Mast said.

Bongino’s post said he had spoken to Folds of Honor and they had assured him that they would cancel the project.

“They are great people doing great things. They just didn’t understand the passion the locals had for JD Park. They listened to us and did the right thing,” Bongino said.

Bongino said the Tuskegee Dunes Foundation sent a statement to Florida media, which he included in his post. CBS12 did not receive a copy of the statement and has reached out to the organization for comment.

Mast thanked Bongino for calling Folds of Honor and convincing them to cancel the project on the grounds that there would be no impact on the local community.
