A young British man was reported missing while on holiday with his friends in Tenerife.

Jay Slater, 19, from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, was last heard from at around 8am GMT on Monday.

The Foreign Office confirmed that it is supporting the family of a British man reported missing in Spain.

Mr Slater travelled to the Canary Island with his girlfriend Lucy and another friend for a music festival. But after staying overnight with people he had met on an evening out, he did not return to their flat.

On Monday morning, Lucy received a call from Mr Slater telling her that he wanted to walk back to her accommodation as he could not get a bus home.

She said he needed a drink of water, his phone had only 1 percent battery left and he didn’t know where he was. His last location showed him “in the middle of the mountains, near nothing.”

The location was in the Rural de Teno Park – or Teno National Park – a popular hiking area in the northwest of the island.

Lucy said that after the night of drinking, her boyfriend “set off on foot, used the map function on his phone and ended up in the middle of the mountains with nothing nearby.”

“He called me at about 8 a.m. and said his phone was at 1 percent, he said, ‘I don’t know where I am, I need a drink and my phone is about to run out,'” she told the Manchester Evening News.

Nothing has been heard from her since then and Mr. Slater’s mother is said to be on her way to the island.

The group of friends traveled to Tenerife for the NRG music festival, which took place from June 14 to 16.

The event program included beach and boat parties as well as day and night raves in unknown locations.

A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Agency spokesman said: “We are supporting the family of a British man reported missing in Spain and are liaising with local authorities.”
