Children instead of “adult-centered agenda”

Children instead of “adult-centered agenda”

A new book aims to convince voters that children’s rights are at the heart of all the political and cultural issues facing America today.

“I think we can disagree on a lot of things when it comes to policing or education or how we think about masculinity or femininity or the border. But I think we all have this innate reaction of, ‘But leave the kids alone,'” Katy Faust told Fox News Digital.

In his book, Pro-Child Politics, out in September, Faust commissions 19 experts to analyze policies on everything from economics to pornography and argue that protecting children in all areas is good for society and a winning political message for conservatives.

“‘Pro-child politics’ promotes conservative ideas, but it does so not in response to what we are against, but in response to what we are for – children. This is a message of self-sacrifice,” Faust said.

Faust is a Seattle-based mother and writer who founded the children’s rights organization Them Before Us after recognizing a need in the culture for an advocacy organization that would promote the rights and well-being of children before those of adults.

“It actually started with gay marriage. I saw how the needs and rights and desires of children were completely pushed aside to push an adult-centered agenda, and that there was no one to advocate for the children,” she said. “And as someone who has worked with children in different ways for decades, I thought the worst thing that children can experience is the loss of their mother or their father. So you’re using that primal wound as a weapon to push a progressive agenda. And then I started seeing it on every issue, especially around marriage and family.”

Each chapter of Pro-Child Politics tells the true story of a child who has been harmed by policies that they believe put the needs of adults first.

“This is very, very important for rights,” Faust explained. “We’ve always had the statistics and the research and the natural law. We rarely humanize it. We rarely identify the victim properly to say that this person is concrete. If we get that wrong, children will suffer.”

Faust is concerned that an “adult-centered agenda” in the United States has “pushed aside” the needs and rights of children.

She argues that a “child-friendly” philosophy also produces politically effective messages.

“The left has successfully branded (conservatives) as misogynistic, anti-immigration, anti-science, etc.,” she says. By emphasizing how conservative policies support the most vulnerable in society, “it dismisses so many of those accusations,” Faust said.

“There’s one thing that can be a common thread through all the issues we’re talking about, and that’s the question: ‘Do you prioritize the next generation or not?’ So it’s good policy. It’s getting good results for the kids. It’s also just an effective message,” she continued.

Protecting children is good for society and a politically effective signal, argues Faust in his book.

With about 70 days to go before the election, Faust hopes the book will help voters better assess which candidates and party policies will actually protect the next generation.

“I hope to give them a very clear and easy-to-understand template by which they can evaluate anyone who wants their vote,” she continued.
