The official account for the movie “Sonic the Hedgehog” seems to indicate that Keanu Reeves will play Shadow in the upcoming third film.
A TikTok video posted by the official account simply contained the message “ForeSHADOWing,” accompanied by a clip of Sonic crossing his fingers and saying “please, please, please.”
Then he opens his eyes, sees Keanu Reeves in the movie “Speed” and says: “Yes! Keanu, you are a national hero.”
The Hollywood Reporter had already claimed in April that the actor from “John Wick” and “Cyberpunk 2077” would play Shadow in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3”, but there is no official confirmation of this yet.
A movie trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is expected soon, as the film is scheduled to hit theaters on December 20th.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is the second highest-grossing video game movie of all time in the United States, reaching the top spot before being overtaken by the Super Mario Bros. movie.
In a 2022 VGC interview, the head of Sonic Team commented on the success of the films, saying that they presented a welcome challenge for the studio as it could now satisfy a wider audience with its game releases.
“Due to the success of the films, we are now reaching a wider audience who may have never played the game before or not played it that often,” said Takashi Iizuka. “We now need to start creating content for this wider group of fans.”
