“Rock yourself, baby, comfortably in your bed. Now you are sleeping and soon you will be dead.”

This is how Sabrina Carpenter opens her music video for her new song “Taste”, part of her Short and sweet Album released on Friday (August 23rd).

The 25-year-old has pulled out all the stops for her latest hit, and 21-year-old actress Jenna Ortega, best known for her starring role as Wednesday Addams in the hit television series Wednesday, makes a guest appearance.

Let us delve into this.

The first thing we see in the video is a warning, which isn’t very Carpenter-like, is it?

It said: “PARENTAL ADVISORY AND VIEWER WARNING: The following video contains explicit content and graphic violence that some viewers may find offensive. Viewers are asked to exercise restraint.”

As the 25-year-old sings her own wild version of “Rock-a-Bye-Baby,” we see guns, knives, handcuffs, and even a blindfolded teddy bear on her bed.

And then comes the hilarity, because the X-rated video is so bloody and brutal and follows an obvious war between Carpenter and Ortega… and people think it might have something to do with the pop star’s ex, Shawn Mendes.

But why do people think it has something to do with him?

Well, Carpenter was reportedly in a love triangle with Mendes and Camila Cabello earlier last year.

In March 2023, Carpenter thought the two were dating, but Mendes publicly stated that this was not the case and was then seen a month later allegedly “hooking up” with Cabello – even though the two had dated before.

When you listen to the lyrics, you can understand the connection. Carpenter sings, “I heard you guys are back together, and if that’s true, you’ve just got to taste me when he kisses you. If you want eternity, I bet you do. Just know that you’ll taste me, too.”

The music video and song are about two girls fighting over a boy, so that’s totally fine, we just need Carpenter to speak out about it!

When they first meet, Carpenter sneaks into Ortega’s room with a cleaver and tries to murder her in her sleep. But when feathers fly through the air, she realizes that Ortega is not there.

She appears behind the door with a shotgun and shoots Carpenter from the balcony, whereupon the “Espresso” singer amusingly falls onto a fence on the ground floor.

And it just goes on with blood, bullets, gasoline, fire and a completely confused friend.

It ends when Ortega, in a fit of rage, hits Carpenter’s stomach with a chainsaw, not realizing that it is her boyfriend.

I don’t have to explain it to you. See it for yourself – and listen to the melody… maybe that of summer?
