Pakistan were left shocked after their ten-wicket defeat to Bangladesh at their home ground in Rawalpindi on Sunday, which was also a major blow to their hopes of reaching the final of the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC).
For the Bangla Tigers, it was their first-ever test victory against Pakistan. After Sunday’s defeat, Pakistan would need to win at least six of the seven matches in the current WTC cycle to have any chance of reaching the final.
But that is not all, because with the historic defeat against the Asian underdog, Pakistan has also set an unwanted record.

What record did Pakistan set with their defeat against Bangladesh on Sunday?
Pakistan are the only team, along with Zimbabwe, not to have won a Test match at home in the last 36 months. They have failed to win a single match in their last nine attempts, a record that stretches back to August 2021.
No wonder Pakistan are ranked seventh in the WTC 2023-25 points table. With four wins and six losses in 14 Tests, they were also ranked seventh in the WTC 2021-23 points table.
Thanks to this defeat, Pakistan has now gone 1,312 days without a Test win at home.
Pakistan and Zimbabwe are the only teams to have failed to win a home Test in the last three years. Nine home Tests since August 2021 and still no win! This is a long-term strategic failure. It is frustrating to see visiting teams steamrolling us on our own turf. #PAKvBANG

How did Rashid Latif react to Pakistan’s defeat against Bangladesh?
Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif was quite critical of Pakistan’s performance in their recent Test loss to Bangladesh. It was the first time that a Pakistani team had suffered defeat against the Asian underdogs.
“You fended off a full-pace attack. Then you lost the toss and had to bowl first. Things didn’t go the way you expected. In cricket, you shouldn’t take things for granted,” Latif said on a talk show.
“You had to pick at least one wrist spinner considering different scenarios. You didn’t even bring a spinner in your team. You just thought you would win the coin toss and make Bangladesh bat first,” Latif added.
“They have not analysed their opponents thoroughly. They know nothing about Bangladesh’s Test team, not even Shakib Al Hasan or Mushfiqur Rahim. They said, ‘Come, we will show you what we are,'” Latif mocked Pakistan’s lack of awareness.

Latif admitted that the standard of Test cricket in Pakistan has dropped massively. The team could compete well in white-ball tournaments, but it is a bottom-level Test team at best.
