Jennifer Durham, regional library director of Statesboro Regional Public Libraries, is retiring after three decades of dedicated service.
On Thursday, August 22, 2024, colleagues organized a farewell party for the director of the Statesboro-Bulloch County Library Jennifer Durham in the library common room.
Durham has been with the Statesboro-Bulloch County Library since August 1993.
“I was amazed at all the changes in Statesboro and the surrounding area over the last 30 years,” Durham recalls. “I know there have been some that people like and some that they don’t like, but the time I’ve been here has definitely been an exciting time for the library, and I’m very grateful for the experience and the reception I’ve received in the community.”
Durham plans to return to her hometown and continue to serve the people in her community.
“I’m moving back to southwest Georgia, where I grew up, and I’m going to spend a lot more time with my family,” Durham says. “I hope to be able to volunteer there. We have a great animal rescue group in Sylvester, Georgia. It’s affiliated with Best Friends and we’ve supported them since they started, so I’m hoping I might be able to volunteer there.”
She also plans to volunteer at her childhood public library at some point.
Durham leaves her position in capable hands. Her successor, Caroline Johnsonwill officially take up the position effective September 1, 2024.
“Caroline has been with the Statesboro-Bulloch Library for years and has worked in all areas of our library and library system. She knows the community really well. Since she took over as director of the Bulloch Library, we have expanded our presence in the community,” says Durham.
She remembers the difficult days of Covid quarantine, but she sees that things are looking up.
“Now the library is growing again and the community is ready for us and our future.”
