Artist Kris Leipprandt creates a series of murals in Caseville

Artist Kris Leipprandt is working to bring more beach vibes to downtown Caseville with a series of murals on businesses.

The murals are funded by the Caseville Downtown Development Authority’s Facade Grant, which provides money for visual improvements to downtown buildings and businesses.

“I think it’s important to give downtown a fresh new look,” Leipprandt said. “I want to celebrate and enhance the atmosphere of Caseville.”

Her first mural is in the building that houses her art studio, which she completed but has since expanded. She is currently working on Dufty’s Blue Water Inn, where she will paint murals on three walls of the restaurant. She will then paint a mural in Walt’s Restaurant and the bathhouse at Mariner’s Cove Marina.

Leipprandt said the opportunity was “great” because it allowed more people to see her work and brought joy to the community.

“It gives me a lot of joy to give people the opportunity to see my work,” she said. “I want people to feel and identify with the beach and the family-friendly atmosphere when they see my work and think of the good times they had here.”

Leipprandt is currently completing the first phase of the facade of Dufty’s Blue Water Inn. She will then devote a section to the second floor exterior wall and then the final section of the rear wall.

Walt’s Restaurant just down the street is getting a large sunrise and morning mural on the side of the building, emphasizing the restaurant’s breakfast focus.

“I’m glad I can bring bright colors to the city,” Leipprandt said. “(Murals) make people happy.”

The murals are expected to be completed by mid-October. Leipprandt said on average each one takes about 10 to 12 days.
