All eyes will be on Sumit Nagal And Rohan Bopanna as they lead the Indian challenge, US Open 2024 in Tennis Tournament that begins on Monday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.
The final Grand Slam titles The tennis tournament of the year will be available via live streaming and broadcast in India in its 144th edition.
Sumit Nagal could become the first Indian since 2019 to participate in the singles competitions of all four Grand Slam tournaments in one year. Prajnesh Gunneswaran in 2019 and Yuki Bhambri in 2018 were the last male Indian tennis players to do this.
Nagal, ranked 72nd in the tennis rankings, reached the second round of the Australian Open before being eliminated in the first round of the French Open and the Wimbledon Championships this year.
At the recently concluded 2024 Paris Olympics, he became the second Indian player since Leander Paes to make the singles cut in two consecutive editions of the Summer Games. Nagal was eliminated in the first round in Paris too.
Rohan Bopanna, a two-time Grand Slam champion, and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden are seeded second in the men’s doubles behind Marcel Granollers of Spain and Horacio Zeballos of Argentina.
The Indian-Australian pair made it to the final of the US Open last year before losing to the American-British pair Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury. Bopanna-Ebden are the reigning Australian Open champions.
Defending US Open men’s singles champion Novak Djokovic, who won the gold medal for Serbia at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, will be in action at Flushing Meadows alongside French Open and Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain. World number one Jannik Sinner of Italy will also be there.
In the women’s singles, all eyes are on Coco Gauff of the USA, who is preparing to defend her title against a strong field that includes former US Open champion Iga Swiatek of Poland, world number four Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan and two-time Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka.
