Hundreds of people across the county are still without power on Monday afternoon after a thunderstorm hit Limerick yesterday (Sunday) evening.

An estimated 2,500 homes and businesses across Limerick were without power this morning as a result of yesterday’s storm, which brought heavy rain and lightning flashes across the sky across the county.

Although ESB Networks restoration efforts are ongoing this morning and nearly 2,000 customers have been reconnected throughout the day, many customers are still without power.

The most severe power outages are in the Rathkeale region, where more than 200 homes and businesses are still without power.

In the Rathkeake area, power is expected to be restored to most customers by 6pm this evening. Power will also be restored to affected customers in the Foynes and Askeaton areas.

Power is expected to be restored in Patrickswell shortly after midday.

In the south of the county, in the Ballyagran, Rockhill, Leigh and Castletown areas, power is expected to be restored between 3pm and 6pm.

ESB Networks apologises to affected residents and businesses for the power outage and says teams are “currently working to report a fault” and will restore power “as quickly as possible”.
