Rising star Jenna Ortega recently announced that she decided to delete her X-Account (formerly Twitter) due to disturbing AI-generated content featuring her image. The Emmy-nominated actress, known for her roles in “Wednesday” and the upcoming “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” shared her experience in a recent interview.
Ortega expressed her discomfort with artificial intelligence, particularly its misuse in creating inappropriate content. “Did I enjoy opening a Twitter account at 14 because I was supposed to and seeing dirty edited content of myself as a child? No. It’s terrifying. It’s corrupt. It’s wrong,” she explained.
The 20-year-old actress recognizes the potential of AI for positive applications, such as early detection of breast cancer, but her personal experience with the technology has been mostly negative.
Ortega described the influx of manipulated images she was confronted with after her rise to fame, which ultimately led to her decision to leave the platform. “It was disgusting and it made me feel bad. It made me feel uncomfortable,” she explained.
The actress also spoke about the pressures that come with maintaining a social media presence in Hollywood, revealing that she originally started her account due to industry expectations.
Fans can see Ortega in “Beetlejuice,” which premieres at the Venice Film Festival on August 28 before hitting theaters on September 6.
