Young Leaders Council announces launch of Board Connect

Advice for young leaders (YLC), Middle Tennessee’s leading nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding and strengthening the volunteer leadership base in Williamson County and beyond, announced the launch of its innovative Board Connect platform on August 23. This first-in-Middle Tennessee platform connects YLC graduates, trained for 11 weeks in nonprofit board skills, with nonprofits across the region seeking qualified board members, board interns and volunteers.

Board Connect uses advanced matching technology to match the profiles of individuals and nonprofits based on shared interests and needs. Nonprofits can create profiles on the platform to list available board and volunteer positions. YLC graduates can then easily search for and identify opportunities that match their experience and expertise, creating direct connections with organizations that need their skills.

“Board Connect is a significant step forward in advancing our mission to develop the next generation of leaders in the nonprofit sector,” said Kim James, executive director of YLC. “By enabling these important connections, we simplify the way nonprofits find qualified board members and volunteers. Additionally, we provide graduates of our program with direct access to opportunities that match their skills, experience and passions, while supporting their long-term engagement as community leaders. It’s a win-win.”

Currently, the platform is available exclusively to graduates of the 2024 YLC program, with plans to expand access to all YLC alumni in early 2025. As of mid-August, 61% of YLC’s spring graduates have been assigned to a board position or are in the process of being assigned through Board Connect.

The project was made possible by a technology grant from the Frist Foundation.
