Prosecutors accuse Cristian Perez Latorre of posing as a doctor and performing unauthorized cosmetic surgery

LOS ANGELES (CNS) — A Los Angeles man who allegedly performed cosmetic surgery on a woman without a doctor’s license has been charged with assault and improper use of public power, prosecutors said Friday.

Cristian Perez Latorre, 53, was arrested by prosecutors on Thursday and released Friday on $150,000 bail, according to prosecutors and jail records.

Prosecutors said Latorre performed “unapproved cosmetic surgery” on a woman on July 13, 2021. Ten days later, he treated the woman for infections that developed from the surgery. On August 13, 2021, he treated the woman again for further complications from the surgery, prosecutors said.

He was charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of assault causing serious injury and six counts of practicing medicine without a license.

“When an individual poses as a doctor and performs medical procedures without a license, it not only puts lives at risk, but also undermines the fundamental trust between patients and legitimate health care providers,” District Attorney George Gascón said in a statement. “This act of deception threatens the integrity of our health care system and the community’s trust in those who care for their well-being. We are determined to obtain justice for the victim, hold Mr. Latorre accountable, and restore the trust that was so badly violated.”

According to prosecutors, Latorre faces up to ten years in prison if convicted.

On Latorre’s Instagram page – which has more than 20,000 followers – he is described as a “board-certified plastic surgeon” specializing in facial procedures, while his LinkedIn page says he has a medical degree from the University of Buenos Aires.
