Vince Vaughn was inspired by his wife to write “Christmas with the Campbells.”

The 52-year-old has been married to Kyla Weber since 2010 and co-wrote the script for the upcoming Hallmark film with Barbara Kymlicka – which tells the story of a former couple, played by Justin Long and Brittany Snow, who finally spend Christmas together – and came up with the idea because his wife is a fan of the channel.

He said: “I thought of it because my wife watches Hallmark and I’m a little cynical sometimes. So I understand the desire of the girl who gives up her well-paying job in New York to go with the mysterious forest ranger, but I’m afraid that’s not something you can just buy into. But when you watch the film, you inevitably get swept up in some kind of hope. I think there’s something about the holidays and Christmas and romance in general where we all want to believe that against all odds, there’s a chance that true love will appear, and that’s why the films really work.”

The “Four Christmases” star added that the Hallmark writer he hired, Barbara, insisted on changing the language and structure of a film normally seen on the network to make it more adult-oriented.

He told Collider: “So the idea was to hire a Hallmark writer. We hired a great Hallmark writer who had already written a number of Hallmark movies. We just had her write a Hallmark movie, not knowing what we were going to do with it. Barbara (Kymlicka). She wrote a great script and when she finished it we shared the idea with her. We said, ‘We’re going to go through it and change the dialogue, make the characters more adult and make the language more R-ish, stronger points of view, but we’re going to keep the scenes and sequences the same,’ and luckily she was totally into it and on board.”

“Christmas with the Campbells” is scheduled to be released on December 2nd.
