The events were called “National Night Out” in Pequot Lakes and Crosslake and “Night to Unite” in Breezy Point and had the same message: people of all ages should take to the streets to talk to public safety officials and explore safety equipment such as police cars and fire trucks.

Such events take place throughout the country every first Tuesday in August.

A block of Main Street in Pequot Lakes – between Patriot Avenue and Government Drive – was closed off for the event to display fire trucks and police cars. A Crow Wing Power emergency vehicle was on hand to launch children into the air in buckets.

The event featured food trucks and members of the Miss Pequot Lakes royal family grilled and served hot dogs.

At the Crosslake Fire Hall, visitors were able to take a tour of the fire station and learn about fire protection and firefighting equipment.

People ventured to the park behind Breezy Point City Hall to view vehicles from the Pequot Lakes Fire District, police cars and the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office.

Breezy Point police officers were on hand to provide safety demonstrations and rides in a police cruiser.
